Do you have an account in a social network? Have you ever heard about Myspace or Facebook? A social network is a virtual place where you can upload your photos, describe yourself and share information with your friends and other people in the world. There are many web pages to choose, in Mexico Myspace and Facebook are ones that have a lot of popularity, each one of them has some advantages and disadvantages, if you had to choose, which one you prefer?

Myspace has a lot more options that Facebook does not, maybe because it was created first. The most important advantage is that you can personalize your page with the background and colors that you like; you can add a playlist of songs and videos to your profile and you can organize the modules of your page in the way you want, I have to mention that some of these options are new, because years ago some of them were not available. If you really like music or you want to know new bands from any place of the world, Myspace is the perfect option because a lot of bands have a profile and you can listen to their songs, check their events or concerts and watch their videos in an easy way. On the other hand, Myspace’s popularity has been decreasing in the last two years and this is a disadvantage if you want to know new people. When Myspace was created the interface was difficult to use, especially if you wanted to personalize your profile because you had to use HTML code, and many people didn’t know how to use it, so many people lose interest in Myspace and people started using Facebook.

On the other hand we have Facebook that also has a lot of advantages. The main advantage of this social network is that you can find whoever you want to find, that’s because of the huge popularity of the page nowadays. You just have to type the name of the person and add him or her as your friend, or you can choose between millions of users around the world. Another advantage of Facebook is that you can create events in an easy way and invite your friends; also you can share a lot of applications like quizzes, tests, surveys or games. But Facebook has some disadvantages, one of the most important is privacy, because even when the page have some options to control who is allowed to see your profile, it’s really easy that people who you don’t know be able to see your information, photos, etc, so you have to be more careful on what you share. Another important disadvantage is that you can not personalize your profile in the way you want; you have to follow a pattern, so you can not totally express yourself.

In conclusion both social networks have advantages and disadvantages, but they are a good option if you want to share something in internet. Personally I prefer Myspace because it is more private and you can personalize it, but I also use Facebook because it’s more popular and I find my friends there. Finally if Facebook or Myspace don’t like you, you can look for other options like Hi5 or Blogger.

Do you think that buying a videogame machine is not a good inversion? Do you consider that videogames are just a waste of time? You must think more about it, because they have a lot of advantages, not just to have fun but for educational purposes and to improve your abilities.

The main purpose of videogames is to entertain in a safe way, because you don’t have to go out of home to play. But besides that, they could improve your skills to solve problems and also helps you to get better reflects. That’s because in many videogames you have to pass different levels solving problems or searching cues, for that reason you need to be concentrated in the game and think about how you can solve the problems or the challenge to pass the level.

Another benefit of playing videogames is that they could be used for educational purposes. For example, in Japan there are some schools for learning how to play videogames. Also many videogames for little kids promotes or contains mathematics, reading habits, general culture and other educational topics.

But some parents say that videogames have a lot of violence and don’t let kids to do other activities because they spend all day playing videogames. This people maybe ignore that all videogames are classified by ages and content, so they can control what their kids play. Also videogames could be played by all the family, doing and sharing group activities and parents must control the time that their kids spend with the videogame machine.

In conclusion if you want to have a fun time and at the same time to receive some benefits in a safe way, videogames are a good option. A videogame machine is a good inversion because family could be more united playing in group activities at home.

Do you like music? How do you feel when you listen to a song? One of my favorite kinds of music is punk rock and when I’m listening to a punk song, I feel really fine. Punk is not a complicated kind of music, but it has many characteristics that make me feel good, also punk has a lot of styles and each one of them creates in me different sensations.

Punk music started during the seventies. First bands of punk rock music had a dirty sound because they didn’t know how to play an instrument. The basic instruments in punk music are guitars, drums and bass, the voice is usually simple and out of tune. Songs are really short, drums are played fast, guitars are really simple, they don’t use more than three or four chords and the bass is almost unnoticed. Another characteristic of punk music is the lyrics, the first punk bands wrote about nonconformity, freedom, resistance and anarchy, that’s because young people wanted a change in the society or just because they want to be against everything.

By the time punk music had a lot of changes and many styles were created. For example Hardcore Punk started in eighties decade and it has the same musical structure that punk rock but with a faster sound, voices almost screaming and shorter songs. Another type of punk is New Wave, that is a combination of punk rock and pop disco music, it sound and rhythm is clear and it have a commercial format. Happy punk is another subgenre which was created during nineties, it is more structured and commercial because it has sticky chorus and lyrics talk about love, adolescence problems, funny things, etc. Other genres developed by punk are emo, hardcore, powerpop, post punk, screamo, metalcore, etc.

I love punk music because it makes me feel real and lyrics bring me to reality, specially when I listen to hardcore because songs talk about real problems and situations like corruption, war, discrimination and they also talk about unity, equality, idealism and it makes me feel really exited. When I feel sad or crest fallen I listen to happy punk because it sound is really witty and silly and it makes me feel contented. Sometimes emo punk turns me into a gloomy mood because lyrics are really sorrowful and depressive, I like to feel that melancholy inside of me.

In conclusion I like punk music and punk styles because they creates different emotions in me, even when punk is really simple. I think lyrics are really important when you listen to a song and punk rock had a lot of alternatives to all kind of situations, so if you are trying to find music makes you feel something, you can start with punk rock music.

Do you remember how do you started to use electronic tools? It is important for you to use the technology to improve your literacy? Electronic tools are always evolving and they also had new benefits for us. Ten years ago I started use internet just to have an e-mail account but nowadays I could improve my L2 practicing with exercises or electronic activities, but I think there are a lot of possibilities in a future.

My first contact with electronic tools like internet was when I had 11 years because I did my first e-mail account, but I didn’t have any contacts. Then when I was 15 years I create my MSN account in where I can chat with my friends. I remember that one of my first tools to do my homework at primary and secondary school was the Encarta Encyclopedia. When I was 17 I create my account of Myspace, where I can meet many people and a lot of music bands.

Nowadays I use electronic tools not just to entertain purposes but to improve my English, read and found information that helps me in my homework. For example, while I’m doing this essay, I use a tool that helps me to know if my orthography or my vocabulary is clear. Also I can find a lot of exercises to use and practice my L2. For entertainment and updating uses I recently create my Facebook account, I don’t really like it too much but is useful to find people that you know.

Technology is in constant changing, so I hope I can actualize myself into the new electronic tools. I don’t know what will come in a future related to technology but I think it will be really dynamic and interactive, not only with a machine but with other people. As a future teacher I will have the chance to research a lot of tools that helps me to give a class, as interactive exercises or maybe virtual reality.

In conclusion electronic tools give us a lot of advantages and possibilities to improve our literacy and also to entertain us. I think we have to adapt or adjust to new technologies and tools to be in constant actualization. In general I think we must learn how to use electronic tools because nowadays they are really useful.

Humans are constantly in communication and we usually talk about ourselves with other people. I would like to share some information about me in order for you to know who I am, what I like and what I don’t, and things I like to do, just like we always do it in a personal web page.

The first thing you should know about me is that my name is Mario, but some people call me wize, and I’m 21 years old. I’m living in Aguascalientes, Mexico and nowadays I’m studying ELT in UAA. Physically I’m a tall guy and very slim, people say me I should eat more to gain weight but I am not worried about that. I had brown eyes, a small mouth and a kind of big nose. I hate my hair because it isn’t lank but it isn’t curly, a kind of kinky so it is really hard to comb. In general I think I’m not a handsome guy but I don’t think I am ugly, I think I’m just another normal guy.

Now you should know some things I like and dislike. Music is one thing that I love; I like to listen to different kinds of music like rock, punk, hardcore, hip hop, pop, ska and many others styles. Some of my favorite bands are Green day, Nirvana, My chemical romance, Blink 182, Offspring, Zoe, Panic at the disco, etc. On the other hand I hate children’s music and duranguenze style; however, I respect people who like it. Talking about food I like potatoes, pizza, chicken and Chinese food but I don’t like beans, avocado, onion and some dishes of Mexican food. My favorite dessert is vanilla flan but I hate chocolate brownies.

Finally I would like to share some things I like to do. Music is very important for me, so I enjoy a lot to go to concerts and see band shows, I think there are many bands with a lot of talent but they need more support. Another thing related to music that I like to do is playing the drums, I took some lessons years ago but I have to practice more. I also like to go out with my friends to parties, concerts, etc. Sometimes I like to be alone in my room reading or just listening music.

In conclusion I think I’m just another person in this world that likes to share some personal information with other people. I think that talking about ourselves is important because many people just take importance on the first impression or the people's appereance but they don't know more about the likes or feelings, and they could have a wrong impression.
